Spurdog Tagging Programme

Update :: A good number of volunteers have stepped forward but the offer is still open, email taggingprogramme@ssacn.org if you are interested.

In a recent meeting between SSACN and the Scottish Government Fisheries Department SEERAD we suggested we run a combined tagging programme to find more data about the Spurdog.

The idea has since been accepted and the Fisheries Research Services (FRS See http://www.frs-scotland.gov.uk ) will be providing their input so we provide the data they require and Dr. Ken Collins at the UK shark tagging programme has kindly agreed to collate all the data.

It costs approx £40 to set someone up with the necessary tags, tools and cards and though there will be no charge to the volunteers, please think carefully about it before you respond.

We will need to know approximately how many fish you will realistically tag in a year and from which area, so the FRS can design the programme.

Working with a government agency on stock conservation issues can only help in lifting the profile of SSACN and recreational sea angling in general.
