Dolphins and devolved interests
A clash between oil and gas exploration and the Moray Firth colony of bottlenose dolphins has got Environment Secretary Lochhead asking Westminster to make sure that there will be no adverse effect on the integrity of the special area of conservation in the Moray Firth, its local dolphin population and it’s associated tourism.
Now of course oil and gas are not devolved competencies.
Is this just another popularist political swipe at Westminster, or is the Cabinet Secretary beginning to take a real interest in protecting endangered species.
Perhaps he may like to consider taking some real proactive steps to address the issues caused by the Clyde langoustine fishery, the fate of common skate, porbeagle, spurdog etc; perhaps even realise that angling tourism is also worthy of consideration.
All devolved issues he could address without bothering Westminster.
