M&J say NO
M&J Seafood has announced that it will no longer be supplying bluefin tuna to the foodservice market; this follows its ban on all shark products in its portfolio.
M&J say the decision underlines its “strenuous” efforts to support and promote sustainable and ethical sourcing and champion the use of underutilised species.
Bluefin has become a threatened species worldwide. Last year the EC suspended fishing for it in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean last year to curb illegal and over fishing and dwindling stocks.
M&J expect other suppliers and retailers to follow their lead saying the industry needs to present a united front as they all have an enormous responsibility to support sustainable practices and reverse current trends.
Would that government fisheries ministers and departments take a similar stance.
