I.O.M. charter angling strategy
THE I.O.M. Fisheries Department is developing a charter angling strategy to encourage local vessel owners to consider charter angling trips as a realistic business opportunity.
Their Minister for Agriculture believes their marine environment presents great opportunities for recreational sea angling, potentially making it a prime sea angling centre in the British Isles.
The Department will provide support to fishing vessel owners who are interested in this as an alternative means of income and have organised a workshop open to all vessel owners, both recreational and those from the commercial fishing industry, who are interested in extending the use of their vessel to provide charter angling trips.
The workshops will cover issues such as how to qualify to take passengers, how to upgrade vessels if necessary, the types of practical assistance that may be offered in the form of grants, as well as details of the training course available on the responsible operation of vessels around marine wildlife.
The Department of Tourism & Leisure’s - Vision 2020 - proposed tourism strategy recognises the value of the natural environment and the need to actively protect, support and promote its sustainability in coming years.
