• Economic Study

  If you have been sea fishing in Scotland in the last three years this concerns you !
  
  The government will ‘go the extra mile’ to support commercial fishing, but do little to support sea angling.
  
  Economists from Glasgow Caledonian University are working on an economic study of sea angling which will help policy makers understand Scottish sea angling’s true significance.
  
  To support this there is an on-line questionnaire here
  
  Please take the time to fill in the questionnaire, pass on the message to your friends and encourage others.

• Give Fish A Chance

  Fish sustainably, only take fish for the table which have had a chance to reproduce.

• To Think About

  Perverse commercial logic

  The fishing industry lobbies for higher quotas, saying this will reduce the level of dumping at sea and thus increase stocks.

  They also claim that until five years ago dumping was addressed by illegal 'black fish' landings.

  So the new commercial policy would be to increase quotas and then illegally land any fish over that quota --- sounds like a real opportunity to increase stocks - not.

  The Scottish Government launched their consultation on a Scottish Marine Bill on the 14/07/08, it is scheduled to end on the 03/10/08.

  Many species of fish, once very common in Scottish waters are now commercially extinct.
  
  15+ million fish are discarded annually in the Clyde Nephrops fishery.
  
  500+ million fish are discarded annually in the waters around Scotland.
  
  EU fleets discard 2+ BILLION fish annually in the North Sea.
  
  Four species of shark - spurdog, porbeagle, common skate and tope urgently need management plans to stop their rapid decline.
