Sustainable Seas For All - A consultation on Scotland’s first marine bill was launched on July 14, 2008 it is now underway and will run until October 6, 2008.

The Scottish Government claims it is keen to get views from across all communities and sectors and encourages people and organisations to come forward and voice their opinions and that all responses to these proposals will be considered.

Throughout the consultation period a series of free Scottish Marine Bill consultation events will be held around Scotland.

* August 15 - Pettycur, Fife - hosted by Forth Estuary
* August 21 - Musselbrugh - hosted by Forth Estuary Forum
* September 5 - Dundee - hosted by Scottish Coastal Forum
* September 10 - Inverness - hosted by Moray Firth Partnership
* September 12 - Dumfries - hosted by Solway Firth Partnership
* September 17 - Aberdeen - hosted by East Grampian Coastal Partnership

Give Fish A Chance

SSACN’s Give Fish A Chance (GFAC) initiative reflects the fact that many anglers, whilst enjoying their sport and occasionally taking a fish for the table, are keen to do what they can to ensure the minimal impact to the environment and to the fish themselves.

Give Fish A Chance consists of a series of advisory notes and voluntary measures to help anglers better understand the issues associated with taking and handling fish.

Fish sustainably, only take fish for the table which have had a chance to reproduce and have respect for those you do catch.

Little known fact

Gourdon on the north east coast near Aberdeen was one of the last centres of traditional sma' line fishing where, up until the late 1970s, there was a fleet of some 18 inshore line boats.
