SSACN meeting with Cabinet Minister Lochhead

Delegates from SSACN met with Cabinet Secretary Lochhead today to discuss a broad range of factors affecting recreational sea angling in Scotland.

These included the progress of the Government commissioned economic study of Scottish sea angling undertaken by Glasgow Caledonian Univ; opportunities to revitalise and regenerate the stocks of interest to sea anglers and opportunities to partner with other stakeholders to address some of the issues we identified.

Whilst the final results of the survey were not available, we are confident that the £150 M/yr we determined in 2006 has been shown to be a realistic figure. Mr Lochhead affirmed that the Government recognised the value of sea angling and stated that they are keen to facilitate efforts aimed at building on the initiatives we have undertaken to date.
