Angus SNP MP follows Arbroath Conservative

politicians, councillors and boat owners in raising their voices against the EC’s proposed Control Regulations, especially Article 47, which were so badly framed it Commissioner Borg has had to step in and repeatedly deny that they were seeking to extend their control over fisheries onto sea anglers.

ANGUS MP Mike Weir (SNP) has strongly welcomed the action being taken by MEP Ian Hudghton (SNP) who has tabled changes to remove all references to recreational fishing from the plans.

Backing Mr Hudghton’s direct intervention, Mr Weir said: "Sea angling is sport which has been enjoyed by generations of locals and visitors alike and a number of boats work from the harbour in Arbroath, which is good for the local economy and tourism.

"Everyone involved in the commercial fishing industry in Angus has seen the disastrous effect of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy and the Commission’s attempt to now take control over aspects of sea angling is outrageous.

"I fully back Ian’s amendment in the European Parliament seeking to remove sea angling from the claws of the Commission and hope enough support will sink this ludicrous proposal for good."
