Clyde area petition

Aug 30th, 2008 | By ssacn | Category: Conservation, UK Government News

The Prime Minister is being petitioned to limit commercial fishing on the Clyde and its sea lochs. The originator of the petition asks that the government -

Create no go areas for trawlers in Scotland’s salt water lochs, and the river Clyde. In addition to this create at least one marine conservation area or park for sea life on each side of Scotland. Scotland’s once great recreational sea angling industry is in decline, mainly thanks to EU trawlers over fishing dwindling stocks. The creation of No-go areas for trawlers will allow stocks to be re-populated,also by creating sea marine conservation areas the recreational sea angling industry will pick up along with tourism as many anglers from all over the UK and abroad used to visit Scotland for its once famous recreational sea angling. If left as is Scotland will suffer yet another blow to yet another industry!

The petition may be found here.
