Please consider this possible factor for fish stock declines...

I am not a biologist, however I have often wondered whether worms found buried in the flesh of white fish has been a factor in fish stock decline.

In the 70’s & 80’s nearly all the pollack and cod I caught (angling by rod) in Loch Fyne were riddled with 2-4cm long x 2mm diameter, clear, tubeular worms. A few years later – there were no fish in the loch!

After a lul in my angling exploits, I have begun to fish, quite sucessfully, the shoreline on the East Coast of Scotland. Much to my dismay, nearly all the cod I have caught are infested with this same worm like parasite. Could this parasite potentially be killing off all our bottom feeding fish?

Has anyone researched this parasite? I would be interested to know and willing to give more details.

There's still too many willing to circumvent all the rules; Mr Lochhead will have to really tighten things up if he expects anyone to believe the SNP and the commercial fishermen are really interested in sustainability.

So what happens to all the undersized fish they haul in to find out they are undersized - get landed as 'legal' or get discarded ?

Seems like a great chance to have your cake and eat it, or just another bit of political moonshine !!

While the honest fishermen stick to the rules, their greedy colleagues are stealing their livliehoods, and making a mockery of the efforts they are making to maintain a sustainable fishery.
