Once again bureaucrats and politicians at the EU fail in the simplest of tasks when it comes to protecting the marine environment.
They failed to meet a deadline this month to introduce the amendments needed to extend the life of an agreement known as the fisheries Technical Conservation Regulation, which is designed to protect sensitive marine environments and species.
If this is not addressed quickly, the EU will no longer be able to legally prevent certain destructive activities in fragile marine areas which could impact vulnerable marine species.
Once again it is very apparent that the interests of the commercial fishing sector are closer to the hearts and minds of the EU rather than protecting marine wildlife and ensuring a sustainable environment.
