Our first Fish Smart Summer Angling Festival will be run over the weekend of the June 3rd – 5th and will encompass a wide range of exciting activities including SSACN’s flagship event Shark-A-Tag, boat and shore Species Hunts, a pegged Shore Sweepstake and a fun filled educational Outreach programme for all ages held around Portpatrick harbour. For details of individual activities, please see below.
What is Fish Smart?
- A number of fun activities to introduce kids to the exciting sport of angling.
- A series of advisory notes, voluntary measures and handling codes to encourage anglers to enjoy their fishing while making sure they have the minimum impact on the marine environment.
- Facilitating anglers to gather data in areas where we can make a difference to fisheries management with the aim of ensuring bigger and larger number of fish are available in our waters.
Our summer festival aims to bring our wide range of activities and events together under the Fish Smart banner to show how angling can not only be a fun and engaging sport, but also a force for environmental good.
