Illegal razor fish seized

razorclamsEnvironmental Officers in Oban seized some £40,000 worth of illegal razor clams when a vehicle containing them was stopped by officers at Oban Ferry Terminal on its way from the island of Barra to Hong Kong.

Apparently the razor fish had been harvested in unclassified waters around Barra or the Isle of Uist and are thus deemed unfit for human consumption.

Although it would appear Marine Scotland Compliance cannot do anything about illegal electro-fishing razor fish due to lack of evidence (!), it would seem Environmental Officers can at least act when given the opportunity.
