Make a difference

| February 26, 2012

Over the past few years SSACN has achieved some terrific results  - the economic study, presentations in Holyrood, contributing to marine management policy and establishing the SSTP to name just a few and we are now involved in many areas and matters which we could not have conceived of when we first started.

This is of course a great tribute to our membership and to the efforts of all concerned and which has given us the appetite to achieve even more.

With all the developments going on in such areas as offshore wind farms, MPAs, the reorganisation of inshore fisheries management — there will be plenty of opportunity, but of course this will make even more demands on our resources so we are looking for additional volunteers.

The following is a brief summary of the teams we have in place to drive forward - if you’d like additional info or join one (or more) of them, just drop a line to the relevant email address.

  • PCO - - The PCO team addresses political issues, coordinates the input to consultations and identifies other development opportunities.
  • SSTP - - Highlights the need for shark protection, encourages the use of “codes of best practice” and promotes practical conservation efforts.
  • Events - - As part of the SSTP, we run three major tagging event weekends focusing on shark species in trouble. The weekends also help raise public awareness of the urgent need for sharks, ray and skate protection.
  • Outreach - - To provide anglers and organisations working with children with a fun, educational experience – based around marine conservation and sea angling.

Even if you can only spare a few hours a week - you can help make a difference !
