Marine Plan consultation timing revised

saltireThe timeline for a consultation on a Draft National Marine Plan and implementation of a National Marine Plan has been revised, taking account of UK and Scottish Ministerial processes and resources available. The consultation is expected in summer 2013, leading to implementation of the Plan by the end of 2014.

The Marine (Scotland) Act provides for a new framework for marine planning of Scotland’s seas at national and regional level. A National Marine Plan is being developed which will set out Scottish Ministers policies regarding the use of marine area, including social, economic and ecosystem objectives.

The Statement of Public Participation has been updated to reflect the new timeline and can be viewed on the Scottish Government website.

An interactive GIS tool designed to allow users to view different types of information continues to be improved through the additional of more data. It will sit alongside the Marine Atlas and NMP as a planning tool.

Further details about National Marine Planning and the interactive tool can be found on the Government’s website.
