Marine (Scotland) Act Leaflets
The Marine (Scotland) Act 2010 introduces a new system of marine planning, a new streamlined licensing system, creates new Marine Protected Area powers and introduces other powers to improve Marine Scotland’s ability to monitor and deal with compliance issues in Scotland’s seas.
A number of downloadable summary leaflets have been created and are available for download in PDF format. Some of the more pertinent ones are :
Seeks to manage competition for marine space creating ‘win win’ scenarios which deal with conflicts in the future development of Scottish marine space.
The new streamlined licensing system should accelerate the decision-making process for applicants whilst considering the need to protect or mitigate the effects of the activity on the marine environment.
MARINE PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT
These powers are aimed at improving Scotland’s ability to conserve natural and historic features including species and habitats not currently protected by EU legislation.
MARINE COMPLIANCE MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT
The Act provides marine enforcement officers with a set of ‘common enforcement powers.’ These powers apply across the issues that enforcement officers deal with, and shared by all enforcement officers across the UK.
