More money for Scottish Inshore Fisheries Groups

| August 1, 2014

Once again sea angling has missed out on European money as more is funnelled into the commercial sector.

£1.4 million of funding is heading to Inshore Fisheries Groups (IFG) for new research projects that will aim to secure a sustainable future for inshore commercial sector.

The funding, which is delivered in partnership with the European Fisheries Fund and the Scottish Government, it is said will contribute to a secure future for Scotland’s world leading seafood industry.

Specifically, IFGs will benefit through: establishing the location of fishing activities within inshore areas; identifying fishery impacts; defining the environmental footprint and availability of stocks; developing economic value within local fisheries; and establishing an information resource base to assist the management of inshore fisheries.

But, of course, no consideration will be given to the recreational sector.
