No one can wait
Nov 4th, 2009 | By ssacn | Category: SSACN AnnouncementsThis week Fisheries Secretary Richard Lochhead told a major international conference in Edinburgh that the time has come for the EU to ‘repair the damage’ caused by the ‘broken’ Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) saying :
“It is important that greater powers are returned to Scotland…. But we can’t wait for 2013 for radical changes – we need changes now – before it’s too late for our fishermen and fish stocks.”
The Minister needs to show a similar level of concern and urgency when it comes to recreational fishermen and the stocks of interest to them.
Successive governments and their civil servants have stood by and allowed inshore stocks to be depleted to the extent that, in the last 20 years over 20 species of fish may now be considered locally extinct in many coastal areas.
We need changes NOW, the FISH cannot afford to wait.
