Rethink your advice
Was the message given by a group of this week when it called on the Government to review their advice that people should eat at least two fish meals a week, one of which should be oily fish, rich in omega 3 fatty acids.
The group, which sits on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, says that declining fish stocks are giving cause for concern and that the UK has a moral duty to do more than boost food production, especially when the ability of the marine environment to meet this demand without overfishing is questionable.
Their call is the latest in a series of recent warnings about fish stocks following the release of The End Of The Line film, Prince Charles voicing his concerns and major fish retailers like Waitrose and Marks & Spencer have decided not to sell species which they feel are threatened even though they may be MSC certified.
