Scott slams SNP comments
Following meetings this morning at Peterhead quay side with North East fishing representatives, including skipper Jimmy Buchan and the Chief Executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, Bertie Armstrong, Scottish Conservatives Fisheries spokesman, John Scott MSP, has slammed the SNP for remarks made by their President, Ian Hudghton MEP, seemingly praising Icelandic fisheries management.
John Scott said: “At a time when Iceland has unilaterally decided to take 112,000 tonnes of mackerel last year and 130,000 tonnes this year, thereby threatening the long term, scientifically established quota of 500,000 tonnes for this species, it is frankly outrageous for the SNP to be praising Iceland as an example of best practice in fisheries management.
“The activities of the Icelandic Government pose a very real threat to Scotland’s pelagic fleet, and I would therefore urge Richard Lochhead to clarify the SNP position on this matter without delay.”
