Sharkatag Update
Jun 8th, 2009 | By ssacn | Category: SSACN AnnouncementsThough Sharkatag 2009 is neither a competition nor a commercial event it has attracted a terrific number of dedicated, conservation minded sea anglers from Cornwall to Caithness who will try to help provide a strong set of base data for SSACN’s Scottish Shark Tagging Proramme by tagging as many shark species as possible.
Over the weekend we are expecting :
Over 400 rods to take part.
Fishing from the shore, kayaks or small boats.
To generate around £60K for the local economy.
The launch of Sharkatag 2009 to be shown live on BBC TV.
Additional broadcasts on national and internet TV and radio.
Reports in the general and specialist press.
Websites and blogs worldwide to report the event.
We are also hoping Sharkatag will help us to raise the profile of sea angling, especially as although it is a key contributor to national and local economies ( generating more than £150m per year for Scotland ), it is excluded from any meaningful involvement in helping manage and regenerate the fish stocks of interest to sea anglers.
