The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is working with NGOs, through Wildlife and Countryside Link, to ask politicians to sign the Marine Protected Area Charter.
The Marine Charter calls for the swift designation of a well-managed network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in UK seas by 2016. These are areas of the sea that should be protected from damaging activities like trawling and dredging, and will protect a wide range of habitats and wildlife.
Over 100 MPs and 20 Peers have signed up so far. Their support will put pressure on this and future Governments to complete the MPA network in England and offshore Wales. But we’d like even more MPs to sign the Charter.
You can go to the MCS website to contact your MP today and ask them to sign up to the Marine Charter.
