£11 million for the commercials

THE Scottish commercial fishing industry has received  another  near £11-million boost from the European Fisheries Fund (EFF).

A total of 114 companies are set to share in the £10.9 million grant awards which could save hundreds of jobs and help finance new developments.

Typical payouts include £1.07million towards the cost of upgrading a salmon farm on Shetland; £756,000 to help build and equip a new processing facility at Stornoway on Lewis; £183,985 to a mussel farm to help increase its yield; £137,000 to MV Atlantic Challenge to upgrade its vessel .

According to Cabinet Secretary Lochhead : "Hundreds of Scottish companies and initiatives have been supported by the fund since its launch, and I am encouraged by the number and diversity of the applications for this round."

Unfortunately none of these millions make their way to supporting the sea angling sector which delivers £150 million/yr to the Scottish economy.
