Damanaki wants real reform

Maria Damanaki, the European Fisheries Commissioner will host a key one day conference on the future of fisheries next month and has let it be known she wants real reform when the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) comes into force in January 2013.

Last week, she told the European Parliament fisheries committee that reform of the CFP must aim to ensure sustainable exploitation of resources and contribute to the ‘Europe 2020’ strategy by working on robust economic performance, inclusive growth and enhanced coastal cohesion.

The conference, in Brussels on November 16th,  which will officially close the consultation on the reform of the CFP and the beginning of the process of drawing up concrete proposals for the new policy.
