SSACN at Tobermory Visitor Centre

Tobermory Harbour has a new Marine Visitor Centre which was opened to the public on Monday 30th July.

Interactive and informative displays of interest to all ages cover a broad cross section of activities in and around Tobermory Bay and the Sound of Mull.

SSACN were pleased to be asked to contribute and you’ll find our display board, discussing rays and sharks, at the far end of the centre behind the touch pools, and is the first ‘marine’ area display visitors see as they circulate.

Half of the centre is environmentally focussed, looking at marine life, cetaceans, whale watching, sea science, invasive non native species etc. and the other half is dedicated to the fleet afloat, fishing, fish farms, RNLI, Coastguard and navigational type info etc.

There is also a small viewing room with seating for 20 people, showing various wildlife films etc.  The aquarium is up and running and feeding time for the crabs etc is at 2.00pm each day!

In the future, there will also be some “Touch Pools” available for children to be able to have a “hands on” experience with some of the sea creatures found in the Bay.  More information can be found on the Tobermory Harbour website.
